Ukraine is seeing a gradual decline in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza, and coronavirus. During the last week of winter, from February 23 to March 1, doctors recorded nearly 168,000 new patients. Most of those infected are children — more than 94,000 cases, while among adults, about 73,000 people fell ill. Compared to the previous week, the overall infection rate decreased by four percent. There were 221 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Due to complications in their health, 4,744 people required hospitalization, most of whom were minors. The epidemiological situation remains uneven depending on the region. The average level of exceeding the epidemic threshold was recorded in the Volyn, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytsky regions. Low levels are observed in Zakarpattia, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Cherkasy, and Kyiv regions. The capital and other regions of Ukraine are within the background level of disease intensity.
The current epidemic season began on September 29 last year. During this time, almost three million Ukrainians have had respiratory infections, which is slightly less than during the same period last year. The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus during this time was over 21,000.
To minimize the risk of infection, doctors advise following basic hygiene rules. They recommend avoiding close contact with people who have cold symptoms, washing your hands regularly with soap or using antiseptics, covering your face when sneezing, and minimizing touching your face. People with the first signs of illness should stay home to prevent the spread of viruses.
