An online catalogue of translations of Ukrainian books into foreign languages has been presented in Ukraine. The platform brings together information on more than 300 publications that have been released with the support of the Translate Ukraine state programme since 2020. These are translations of Ukrainian literature that have been published in various countries and have become part of the international book market.
The Translate Ukraine programme is implemented by the Ukrainian Book Institute with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Its goal is to support translations of works by Ukrainian authors into other languages and to expand the presence of Ukrainian literature abroad. In 2026, the initiative will continue to operate and cover dozens of countries.
To date, 326 translations have been published in 47 countries in 34 languages as part of the programme. The largest number of books have been translated into Polish — 50 publications. There are 36 translations in English, 29 in Bulgarian, 26 in German and 18 in Slovak. The geography of publications covers Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Notable examples include the Arabic-language edition of Taras Shevchenko’s Kobzar and Olga Kobylianska’s novel Lyudina, which were published last year. In 2021, Alla Gutnichenko’s children’s picture book Unusual Professions was published in Indonesia. In Mongolia, the books I See It This Way and Loud, Quiet, Whisper by Andriy Lesiv and Romana Romanyshyn were translated in 2020.
The creation of an online catalogue systematises information about translations of Ukrainian books into various languages of the world and simplifies access to data for publishers, teachers, diplomatic institutions, libraries and cultural managers. The platform can also become a tool for researchers of the international book market and representatives of Ukrainian communities abroad.
