Key points

  • Kyiv has 570 municipal kindergartens with a total capacity of 65,788 places.
  • Nine out of ten districts have occupancy rates above 87%.
  • The highest rate is recorded in Holosiivskyi district (97.5%).
  • The lowest occupancy level is in Shevchenkivskyi district (75.2%).

In Kyiv, nine out of ten districts have municipal kindergarten occupancy rates exceeding 87%. This is evidenced by the updated data from the LUN Kindergarten Occupancy Map, based on information from the Kyiv City State Administration portal “Kyiv Kindergartens” as of 10 February 2026.

There are 570 municipal pre-school education institutions operating in the capital, with a planned total capacity of 65,788 places. In practice, 61,644 children attend these facilities.

The highest occupancy rates are recorded in Holosiivskyi district at 97.5%, Obolonskyi at 95.7%, and Podilskyi at 93.8%. The lowest rate is in Shevchenkivskyi district, where occupancy stands at 75.2%. In other districts, the figure ranges between 87% and 92%.

The largest number of kindergartens operates in Dniprovskyi district, with 80 facilities, while Pecherskyi district has 26. In terms of overall capacity, Darnytskyi district leads with 11,111 places, compared to 1,800 in Pecherskyi district.

However, a larger capacity does not necessarily mean lower pressure on facilities. In Darnytskyi district, occupancy stands at 87%, whereas in Holosiivskyi and Obolonskyi districts it exceeds 95%.

This indicates that existing infrastructure does not always correspond to actual demand. The situation is influenced by housing density, the demographic structure of the population and the pace of new residential development.

Most kindergartens operate as general development institutions. Of the 570 facilities, around 450 have no specialisation.

Among specialised institutions, the most common are those for children with speech and hearing impairments, groups for children with developmental delays, and kindergartens for children with musculoskeletal disorders.

The updated Map of municipal kindergarten occupancy in Kyiv allows users to check the situation at each facility, including whether places are available or if a waiting list has been formed.

Red markers indicate full occupancy. Green, light blue and blue markers show available places, ranging from a few to several dozen.

The data are updated daily based on information from the Kyiv City State Administration. The number of available places may vary depending on the child’s age group and the specific class.
