The Ukrainian labor market has faced new challenges due to the war. According to Ukrainians, the main issues are employee mobilization (73% of respondents), a shortage of skilled workers (53%), and the emigration of qualified specialists (48%). They also point to the informalization of economic relations (26%) and discrepancies between candidates’ salary expectations and companies’ financial capabilities (22%). This was reported by Vox, citing a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center in June.
54% of respondents indicate that overcoming the skills shortage in Ukraine requires retraining workers and redistributing responsibilities within teams. More than half of the respondents (52%) also emphasize the importance of attracting young professionals and encouraging the return of Ukrainians currently abroad. 53% believe that training and adapting older workers and people with disabilities is essential.
Interestingly, only 15% of respondents support the involvement of women in traditionally male-dominated professions.
The survey also revealed that the primary job requirement for most respondents (89%) is a decent level of salary. However, 53% noted that the level of compensation does not correspond to the labor effort and does not consider the complexity or importance of the work.
The results of this study signal serious challenges that need attention from the state, business, and society. It is important not only to adapt to current conditions but also to create opportunities for the development and return of Ukrainian specialists, providing them with decent working conditions.
