From 1 March, a new specialised transport service for Ukraine’s defenders will begin operating in Kyiv. The initiative is being implemented on the basis of the Kyiv Military Hub to ensure accessible and safe travel around the city for veterans who have returned from the war and are undergoing medical treatment or rehabilitation. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Maryna Khonda.
The service is designed for service members with war-related disabilities who use wheelchairs, have undergone amputations or have visual impairments.
It will also be available to veterans with temporary health conditions that limit mobility, including those recovering from surgery, fractures or dislocations.
The specially equipped vehicles of the Kyiv Military Hub meet safety requirements for transporting persons with disabilities. They are fitted with lifts for passengers using wheelchairs and other adaptive features to ensure comfortable travel.
The service will be provided at an agreed time, with the possibility of emergency response in crisis situations.
To receive the service, applicants must submit:
- an application for the service;
- a passport;
- a tax identification number;
- one of the documents confirming status – a certificate of disability resulting from war, a combatant’s certificate, Form 6 certificate, or an extract from the Unified State Register of War Veterans;
- in addition to the certificate of disability resulting from war, an extract from the expert team’s decision on the assessment of daily functioning and an individual rehabilitation programme;
- in cases of temporary loss of mobility, a certificate from a medical advisory commission.
Documents may be submitted remotely by sending scanned copies to kmh.transport@gmail.com or in person at Kyiv Military Hub branches located on Khreshchatyk Street, Kharkivske Highway and in the Dniprovskyi district of the capital.
It is noted that the new transport service aims to simplify veterans’ access to medical institutions, rehabilitation centres and public authorities, as well as reduce physical strain while travelling around the city.
