The Ukrainian Parliament has passed a bill on social protection for military personnel – what is known

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted draft law No. 13646 on the social protection of service members. The document establishes a system of social guarantees for personnel performing basic military service – before enlistment, during service and after returning to civilian life. This was reported by Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov.

During military service:

• the law guarantees financial, medical, food and clothing provision for service members;
• service members will be entitled to leave for family reasons, medical treatment and rehabilitation based on a decision of the Military Medical Commission (MMC);
• the state will also provide accommodation, free travel and postal services.

After returning to civilian life:

• service members will be able to return to their previous place of work in a position not lower than the one they held before service;
• a financial payment equivalent to the average salary is предусмотрено after registration with the military authorities;
• access to professional reintegration, full recognition of insurance and employment record, as well as the right to annual leave within the first year of re-employment are guaranteed.

A separate section of the document concerns families of fallen and missing Defenders of Ukraine:

• families of the fallen are entitled to compensation in the amount of UAH 15 million;
• families of service members who have received the status of missing in action will receive monthly payments of approximately UAH 120,000. If death is confirmed, the total amount of assistance will also amount to UAH 15 million, taking into account sums previously paid.
