February 24 marks four years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine

Today, 24 February 2026, marks four years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In the first days of the aggression by the Kremlin, statements were made about plans to seize Kyiv within three days. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy stressed that Russia’s strategic objectives were not achieved and that attempts to break Ukrainian resistance failed.

According to him, the state has preserved its independence and continues its struggle for a just peace.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko stated that from the first days of the full-scale war, units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system have carried out both combat and humanitarian tasks.

Servicemen of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were among the first to confront the advance of Russian troops at the state border.

Units of the National Guard of Ukraine are engaged in defence operations in the most intense sectors of the front line.

In addition to repelling armed aggression, the National Police of Ukraine maintains public order in communities, conducts evacuations of civilians from combat zones, documents war crimes and operates in de-occupied territories.

Rescue workers of the State Emergency Service eliminate the consequences of missile attacks, clear the rubble of destroyed buildings, extinguish fires and carry out demining operations. Their work covers both major cities and frontline communities that are regularly subjected to shelling.

Despite the hostilities, state services continue to provide assistance to citizens. Service centres of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carry out administrative procedures related to vehicle registration and the issuance of driving licences, while the State Migration Service of Ukraine processes documents both within Ukraine and abroad.

According to international organisations and Ukrainian authorities, millions of citizens have been forced to leave their homes due to the fighting. Thousands of civilian infrastructure facilities have been damaged or destroyed, and hundreds of communities have experienced temporary occupation.
