A ceremonial opening of the first “Ukrainian Bookshelf” in the region took place at the Municipal Public Library in the Polish city of Kielce. The project is aimed at promoting Ukrainian literature and culture and was implemented at the initiative of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Kraków.
The initiative is carried out under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Book Institute.



The event brought together representatives of the local authorities, the diplomatic corps and the cultural community.
In his address at the ceremony, the Consul General of Ukraine in Kraków, Viacheslav Voinarovskyi, emphasised that the “Ukrainian Bookshelf” promotes intercultural dialogue, supports the Ukrainian community in Poland and strengthens cultural diplomacy between Ukraine and Poland.
According to him, it serves as an example of practical cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.
Vice Consul Valentyna Kuzmin also played a significant role in implementing the initiative, contributing to the coordination of cooperation with Ukrainian publishing houses. As a result of this work, the library’s collection was enriched with contemporary and classical Ukrainian publications, as well as Polish translations.
The “Ukrainian Bookshelf” features fiction and popular science books for both children and adults. Some of the publications focus on the history and the ongoing struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russian aggression.
In addition to printed books, visitors can access a selection of Ukrainian classical audiobooks available free of charge.
