Ukraine has launched a pilot project called eReceipt, a state programme for electronic receipts that allows transaction documents to be stored paper-free directly in banking apps. The announcement was made by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.

The pilot project will start in four banks – PrivatBank, PUMB, VST Bank and monobank – as well as in the retail chains Aurora, Fora, Auchan and at Ukrnafta petrol stations.

According to the State Tax Service, Ukrainian entrepreneurs generated more than 9 billion receipts last year. Printing a single paper receipt costs around 7 kopecks.

Switching to digital receipts will enable companies to cut costs while also reducing the environmental impact, as thermal paper used for printing receipts contains bisphenols and cannot be recycled.

The digital receipt will be available to customers in their banking app after paying by card, both in physical stores and online.

The document will be stored electronically and remain accessible for returns, exchanges or warranty service. During the testing phase, customers will receive both paper and digital versions of the receipt.
