The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a decision simplifying the mechanism for providing temporary housing to internally displaced persons. The new rules allow organisations that offer shelter to IDPs to lease state and municipal property on preferential terms. The announcement was made by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.
Public associations and charitable organisations will be able to rent premises for accommodating displaced people at a symbolic rate of 0.01 of the calculated rental fee.
State and municipal institutions in the fields of education, healthcare, culture, physical culture and sport, as well as social protection, have been granted the right to lease property without an auction for UAH 1 per year per facility.
Companies in which the state holds more than a 50% stake may also transfer their real estate for the accommodation of IDPs at a rate of UAH 1 per year. This arrangement will remain in effect during martial law and for six months after it ends.
The new conditions are expected to make it easier to access vacant dormitories, sanatoriums, training centres and other facilities for housing people who were forced to leave their homes because of the war.
