A social hair salon has opened at the transit centre for evacuees in Pavlohrad. Every Friday, a group of volunteer hairdressers provides free haircuts to people who have left Ukraine’s front-line areas. This was reported by Caritas Ukraine.

Anna Dmytrivna, who evacuated from Kostiantynivka, says she last visited a hairdresser in August. After her home was destroyed, she found herself trapped under the rubble and had to free herself despite having a broken arm and ribs. She left her hometown of Kostiantynivka on foot.

I always wore a bob, not too short. The last time I went to a hairdresser was in August… After that, even washing my hair felt like a luxury.

– Anna Dmytrivna.

The initiative is aimed at supporting people who have endured shelling, the loss of their homes and long journeys to safer areas. Volunteers say that the opportunity to have a haircut becomes not only a practical service, but also an important source of emotional support.
