Tactile navigation elements in Braille have been installed at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine to make orientation easier for people with visual impairments.
The initiative was implemented in February 2026 as part of an inclusivity programme aimed at creating a barrier-free environment.
Tactile indicators have been placed on handrails and walls, guiding visitors from the entrance to the Column Hall and the Music Salon of the Philharmonic, as well as to the cloakroom and auxiliary facilities.
Relief floor plans (mnemonic schemes) have also been installed on each level to help visitors understand the building layout and emergency evacuation routes.
In addition, the building is equipped with dedicated ramps providing access to the first and second floors, along with designated spaces for visitors who use wheelchairs.
The National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine is being implemented at the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. The strategy outlines a comprehensive action plan until 2030 aimed at ensuring equal opportunities in the physical environment, digital space, education, the economy and public life for all population groups.
