As a result of Russian aggression, 1,685 cultural heritage sites and 2,483 cultural infrastructure facilities have been destroyed or damaged in Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
Of the total number of affected monuments, 155 have national significance, 1,370 have local significance, and another 160 objects have recently been added to the relevant registers.
Forty-five monuments were completely destroyed, and damage was recorded in 18 regions of the country. The Kharkiv region suffered the most losses – 349 objects, followed by Kherson – 298, Donetsk – 195, Odesa – 184, and the Kyiv region together with Kyiv – 172.
Of the 2,483 cultural infrastructure facilities damaged by shelling, 507 were completely destroyed.
The largest share of losses is accounted for by clubs – 1,223 facilities – and libraries – 858.
The following were also damaged:
- 190 art education institutions;
- 137 museums and galleries;
- 50 theaters, cinemas, and concert halls;
- 11 parks and zoos;
- 9 nature reserves;
- 4 circuses;
- 1 film studio in Kyiv.
The largest number of damaged cultural infrastructure facilities was recorded in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv regions.
Destruction was recorded in 335 communities across the country. The largest number of such communities are in Donetsk region – 46, Sumy – 38, Kharkiv and Chernihiv – 34 each, Zaporizhzhia – 31, Mykolaiv – 23, Dnipropetrovsk – 22, Kyiv – 21, and Luhansk – 12.
The Ministry of Culture notes that due to the temporary occupation of part of the territories, it is impossible to determine the exact extent of the damage, so data collection continues.
