Key points:

As part of the “Shelters for Stray Animals” initiative, the animal welfare organisation UAnimals has installed 33 insulated shelters for animals in frontline regions of Ukraine.

As part of the project, volunteers installed 20 doghouses and 13 cat houses in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kherson regions. The shelters allow animals to hide from frost, snow, and wind.

The shelters are looked after by volunteers from the organisation, who monitor their condition and ensure that food is available.

UAnimals notes that even simple actions – building shelters with your own hands, feeding warm food, and allowing animals to temporarily enter stairwells or other premises to warm up – can significantly increase the chances of stray animals surviving the winter.
