In Ukraine, more than 1,600 people sought medical attention for frostbite and hypothermia in January 2026. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The highest number of cases was recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region – 195, in Kyiv – 183, and in the Kharkiv region – 167. Of the total number of victims, 1,469 people were hospitalised.

The Ministry of Health notes that pallor and dry skin, a cold body surface, blue lips, tremors, and in more severe cases, slow breathing and speech disorders may indicate hypothermia.

In children, symptoms may include reddened and cold skin, unusual lethargy, drowsiness, and refusal to eat. Signs of frostbite include a change in skin colour to grey-yellow or waxy white, numbness, and loss of sensitivity in the affected areas.

Remember that to avoid cold injuries (frostbite or hypothermia) in winter, you need to wear several layers of clothing, stay physically active, avoid alcohol, etc.
