The UN is Actively Working to Restore and Improve Water Supply in Ukraine. Reliable water supply is crucial for the recovery of affected communities and meeting their basic needs. Water is essential for health, personal hygiene, and the proper functioning of society. Enhancing water systems supports the restoration of quality of life, maintenance of local infrastructure, and overall recovery after crises.
In Bucha, with support from UNDP Ukraine / UNDP in Ukraine, a water infrastructure facility has been renovated and equipped with modern technology. This new equipment will not only provide access to quality drinking water for nearly 9,000 residents of the city but also enhance the autonomy and environmental sustainability of the water supply system.
In Odesa, UNICEF Ukraine has completed renovations in hospitals to improve water supply access and storage for emergency needs. At one hospital, work included drilling a well, constructing a pumping station, and installing a reverse osmosis system to ensure a continuous supply of clean water.
In the Kherson region, UNICEF has restored access to clean water for over 1,500 residents of the village of Arkhangelske. With the support of the UN agency, workers drilled an artesian well and installed a water tower. As a result, residents of both the village and nearby settlements will now benefit from improved access to drinking water.
The UN emphasizes that stable water supply is critical for communities affected by the war in Ukraine and is a prerequisite for their recovery.
