In Kyiv, the building of the National Library of Ukraine for Children was damaged as a result of the Russian attack on 5 February. According to data from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, debris from a Russian drone fell near the building and caused significant damage.
The shock wave knocked out 10 window units and balcony doors, particularly in rooms serving the youngest readers. Damage to the foundation, cracks in the walls and defects in the interior decoration, particularly in the library’s shelter, which was renovated last year, were also recorded.
The Ministry of Culture noted that despite the damage, the library continues to operate.







Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 850 libraries in various regions of the country have been destroyed or damaged as a result of hostilities.
The National Library of Ukraine for Children is the country’s main children’s library and national repository of children’s literature. The library’s collection includes over 500,000 books, magazines, gramophone records, CDs, slide films and films.
