The Ukrainian Book Institute has begun accepting applications for the Translate Ukraine 2026 translation competition

The Ukrainian Book Institute has begun accepting applications for participation in Translate Ukraine 2026, a programme supporting the translation of Ukrainian literature into other languages.

The programme was created to support publishers who plan to translate, publish, and distribute works by Ukrainian authors outside the country.

Applications will be accepted from 6 January to 9 February 2026.

To participate in the competition, projects must translate contemporary Ukrainian books or works in the public domain published by Ukrainian publishers with a print run of at least 300 copies by the end of 2026.

Priorities:

  • Ukrainian classical literature;
  • works by military authors;
  • books about the Russian-Ukrainian war;
  • books on Ukrainian history and culture.

The programme provides publishers with reimbursement for the costs of acquiring rights, translation, editing and publication of Ukrainian works in other languages, with a maximum amount of support of €8,000 or its equivalent in hryvnia.

Applications are submitted through the Ukrainian Book Institute, and the full list of documents required to participate in the competition is available at this link.

The winners will be announced by 1 April 2026 on the official website of the Ukrainian Book Institute.
