Key points:
- Over 10 organ transplants were performed in Ukraine during the first 10 days of the year.
- The operations were carried out in Vinnytsia, Zaporizhia, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk.
- Hearts, kidneys, and livers were transplanted.
- All patients are in stable condition after the operations.
In the first 10 days of 2026, more than 10 patients in Ukraine were given a chance at life thanks to organ transplants. This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
This was made possible by the consent of the families of deceased donors to posthumous donation.
At the Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. I. Pirogov, a 45-year-old man with life-threatening injuries became a donor. After identifying immunocompatible recipients, three operating rooms began working almost simultaneously.
The donor heart was transplanted to a 38-year-old Vinnytsia resident who had been waiting for a transplant for over two years due to dilated cardiomyopathy. Two other residents of the region, a 31-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, received kidney transplants.

At the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital, currently the only facility in the south-east of the country where organ transplants are performed, a 51-year-old woman became a donor.
Doctors performed kidney transplants on two men aged 59 and 50, who had been on dialysis for a long time due to stage V chronic kidney disease.
The donor heart was intended for a recipient in Kyiv, but due to difficult weather conditions, it could not be delivered to the capital in time. Therefore, the Kyiv transplant team, together with the 56-year-old patient, arrived in Zaporizhzhia, where the life-saving operation was performed.
At the First Medical Association of Lviv, the donor was a 32-year-old man from Ivano-Frankivsk.
Lviv doctors transplanted his heart to a 53-year-old patient with the highest priority status, and at the same time performed a kidney transplant on a 46-year-old man and a liver transplant on a 61-year-old patient.
Another kidney transplant was performed at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Clinical Hospital on a 41-year-old man.
According to doctors, all patients are in stable condition after the operations.
