The Verkhovna Rada supported bill No. 11328, aimed at introducing European humane standards for the treatment of domestic animals in Ukraine.
It establishes new requirements for the use of animals in public spaces and strengthens the protection of their health.
The bill prohibits:
- the use of domestic animals in advertising, entertainment events and exhibitions in cases where the organisers have not provided adequate conditions for their keeping or where there is a threat to the health and general condition of the animals;
- surgical operations that do not have a therapeutic purpose and are performed solely to change the appearance of the animal.
The document provides for the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to European standards in the field of animal protection and establishes stricter requirements for their use for commercial and public purposes.
