The Ukrainian organisation UAnimals has announced the finalists for the Humane Book 2025 literary award, which recognises children’s publications on the themes of humane treatment of animals and the environment.
This year, about 86 books were submitted for the award by readers and book lovers, from which the jury selected seven works that most vividly reveal the values of responsibility, kindness, and care.
The shortlist includes:
- “Snow Ice Cream.” Author: Kateryna Lazirko. Published by Chas Maystriv.
- “The Lion Doesn’t Laugh at the Circus.” Author: Hanna Bulgakova. Published by Ranok.
- “Rokhelina Zholudenko and Bingo.” Author: Olena Skulovatova. Published by Shkola.
- “The Tree House.” Author: Dmytro Kuzmenko. Published by Magura.
- “My Friend the Snowbird.” Author: Nadiya Herbis. Published by Staryi Lev.
- “Puppy Malyuk. A Story About Humanity.” Author: Olena Rybakova. Published by IRIO.
- “The Red Book.” Author: Hanna Kopylova. Publisher: Osnovy.
Experts are currently continuing to read the finalist books together with young readers in order to assess the children’s reactions and the importance of the messages for the young audience.
The names of the award winners will be announced on 30 January 2026.
