In 2025, Ukrainian was studied in 107 countries around the world. This is according to the results of a global study of language trends by the Preply platform.
The study covers 180 countries and shows a growing interest in online learning, foreign languages, and the use of artificial intelligence in education.
According to Preply, global interest in language learning continues to grow, with online formats increasingly replacing traditional learning methods. By the end of 2025, the global online education market reached $115 billion, and by 2034, it could grow to $334,3 billion.
About 68% of parents believe that their children should learn a second language at school, and almost half of adults regret not having done so earlier.
English remains the most popular language in the world, with 43% of platform users learning it. Spanish and French follow.
In 2025, interest in Asian languages also grew significantly: demand for Japanese increased by 33%, Arabic by 15% and Korean by 13%. The main reasons were culture, entertainment and business connections.
Artificial intelligence has become an integral part of the learning process. According to the study, 80% of students and graduates have used AI in education, particularly for foreign language practice.
Over 40% of teachers used AI to create teaching materials. At the same time, most respondents believe that artificial intelligence cannot replace teachers, but it can effectively complement learning.
In Ukraine in 2025, English was by far the most popular foreign language, with 64% of users studying it.
Next came:
- Spanish;
- German;
- French;
- Polish.
For 38% of Ukrainians, knowledge of the language is linked to career development, while another quarter study it for communication purposes.
At the same time, the Ukrainian language remains in demand among foreigners. It is most widely studied in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and Poland. More than half of those who choose Ukrainian do so for everyday communication, while another fifth do so for professional reasons.
Analysts note that interest in the Ukrainian language remains high amid migration processes and growing international attention to Ukraine.
