  • A course of military reform and army modernisation has been announced.
  • According to Fedorov, technological solutions are already having a tangible effect on the front lines.

Mykhailo Fedorov, who previously served as Minister of Digital Transformation, has been appointed the new Minister of Defence of Ukraine. He announced this on his Telegram channel, outlining his priorities in his new position and his approach to managing the defence sector in the context of full-scale war.

“I am taking up the position of Minister of Defence not as a minister who built a digital state and created Diya, but as a person whose team has been working hard on the war since 2022. Thanks to the work of our team and the support of the President, Ukraine now has Starlink, the Drone Army, the Drone Line, Brave1, the eBala motivation system, UNITED24, and the world’s first Amazon for war, Brave1 Market. We helped to carry out a series of asymmetric operations against the enemy, conducted by the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Security Service of Ukraine.”

He announced his intention to continue developing innovative technologies for warfare, including unmanned systems, drones, missiles and electronic warfare systems, and stressed the need for profound changes within the military.

Key areas include:

  • conducting army reform;
  • modernising infrastructure on the front lines;
  • eradicating lies and corruption;
  • forming a culture of leadership and trust.

“The President has set a clear task: to build a system capable of stopping the enemy in the sky and on the ground, and to intensify asymmetric and cyber attacks on the enemy and its economy.”

The technological solutions implemented are already yielding practical results. According to Fedorov, record enemy losses were recorded in December – around 35,000 people – and the development of the interceptor market is significantly reducing the threat of Shahed-type kamikaze drone attacks.

He also stressed that artificial intelligence has become a full-fledged tool of warfare. Hundreds of AI solutions are currently being deployed on the front lines and used at various levels of military operations, from data analysis and machine vision to autonomous systems and drone swarm coordination.

“Our ambitious goal is to make Ukraine the first country in the world that can predict and neutralise hostile attacks using AI. And much more that we cannot disclose publicly.”
