In Ukraine, 67% of medical licences belong to private practitioners

There are almost 44,000 valid medical licences in Ukraine. The vast majority are held by medical professionals who work as sole traders, accounting for around 67% of all licences. This is according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The most active private practitioners are dentists, with 10,067 licences, or 34% of the total, indicating high demand for dental services in the private healthcare sector.

The largest number of self-employed medical practitioners work in Kyiv – about 2,600. A significant number are also registered in the Lviv region – 2,500, and Dnipropetrovsk – 2,200.

Another 14,325 licences belong to companies, but about 14% of these businesses have already ceased operations or are in the process of bankruptcy. Thus, 12,377 companies remain active and registered.

Among private companies, the largest number of licences have been issued in the field of junior nursing and healthcare organisation and management.

The vast majority of licensees are private companies, accounting for almost 64%. About one-third of licenses belong to municipal medical institutions, while state institutions hold only 6% of licenses.
