In Kyiv and the surrounding region, a number of Novus and Silpo supermarkets have temporarily suspended operations due to widespread power outages. Representatives of the chains explained that without electricity, it is impossible to fully serve customers, maintain the temperature in refrigerators, and provide basic conditions for visitors.
The prolonged power outages are linked to large-scale Russian attacks on energy infrastructure that took place on the nights of 9 and 13 January. Some stores may be operating generators, but their resources are limited and do not always allow all services to be maintained for long periods of time.
However, the ATB chain has assured that all stores are operating as usual and has denied reports of mass closures of its supermarkets.
