Reports about the alleged launch of a penalty point system for drivers in Ukraine starting in 2026 are not true. The information circulating on social media and certain online resources has been refuted by the Patrol Police.
This was stated by Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department. According to him, the penalty point system has not been introduced in Ukraine and is not currently being implemented.
He clarified that a number of bills have been registered in the Verkhovna Rada with the aim of regulating this issue in the future. These bills concern the possibility of introducing penalty points in the future, following the example of practices used in other countries. At the same time, none of these decisions have been adopted yet, and the system itself is not in operation.
Oleksiy Biloshitsky emphasised that the issue is only at the consideration stage, and any large-scale changes in the field of road legislation require a separate decision and public information. The Patrol Police emphasise that the public is informed of such innovations in advance and exclusively through official channels.
Law enforcement officers urge the public to be critical of information from unofficial sources and to verify reports concerning changes to traffic rules and driver liability.
