In Ukraine, there is a growing demand for free infertility treatment using assisted reproductive technologies. Since the beginning of 2025, 6,924 Ukrainian women have received this service, which is more than three times higher than in 2024. At that time, less than two thousand women took advantage of the programme.

The “Infertility Treatment Using Assisted Reproductive Technologies” package, which includes in vitro fertilisation procedures, has been in effect for two years. Since 2024, it has been free of charge thanks to contracts between healthcare facilities and the National Health Service of Ukraine. Currently, such services are provided by 44 medical institutions — state, municipal and private clinics in 14 regions and Kyiv.

According to the programme, in 2025, more than 2,000 women who underwent infertility treatment using ART have already confirmed their pregnancies. This is one of the key indicators of the effectiveness of the state initiative aimed at supporting reproductive health and fertility.

More than 380 million hryvnias have been allocated from the state budget for the implementation of the programme in 2025. The funds will be used to pay for medical services in contracted clinics, including examinations and procedures necessary for the treatment of female and male infertility.

Women diagnosed with “female” or “male infertility” can take advantage of free treatment, provided that they are under 40 years of age at the start of treatment. A multidisciplinary consultation is mandatory, and the treatment must take place at a facility that has a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NSZU) for the relevant package.

The process begins with a visit to an obstetrician-gynaecologist at any medical facility that works with the National Health Service of Ukraine within the framework of outpatient care. After undergoing the necessary examinations, the patient receives the opinion of the council and chooses a clinic that provides assisted reproductive technology services within the framework of the state programme.
