War Changed Everything: How Business Statistics Become the Key to Economic Recovery

During the full-scale war, numbers have ceased to be mere dry analytics. Business statistics have turned into a crucial tool for making decisions that shape the future of companies. They reveal the financial health of enterprises, production dynamics, innovation levels, and the use of digital technologies. These figures show not only the scale of losses but also demonstrate business resilience, its ability to adapt to shocks, and its potential for recovery.

This was stated by the Head of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, Arsen Makarchuk, in a column for Interfax-Ukraine, reports Humanitarian Media Hub.

“Demand for business statistics is naturally growing. Companies need objective indicators for planning: market analysis, risk assessment, regional dynamics, and demand forecasting,” the text notes.

These data are becoming critically important not only within the country. Ukrainian enterprises entering EU markets need clear and comparable indicators. European partners and investors assess the competitiveness of the economy, innovation potential, and cooperation opportunities precisely through the lens of statistics.

Yet even with a large array of data available on stat.gov.ua, there are gaps most visible to data users. This changes the very philosophy of statistics. It is no longer a one-way product but evolves as a result of interaction, focused on practical value, Makarchuk emphasizes.
