Key points
- International tools for functional assessment of patients have been added to the EHCS.
- Rancho Los Amigos and WHODAS 2.0 have been implemented.
- The new functionality will facilitate documentation and data exchange between rehabilitation teams.
- There are plans to introduce additional scales for assessing the condition of patients.
The electronic health care system (EHCS) in Ukraine has expanded its capabilities for recording patient status during rehabilitation by adding two international assessment tools. This innovation allows multidisciplinary teams of medical professionals to more accurately document the functional status of patients and improves the planning of rehabilitation interventions.
The new assessment tools available in the EHCS include the Rancho Los Amigos (RLA-LOCF) scale, used to assess cognitive and behavioural functions after traumatic brain injury, and WHODAS 2.0, a World Health Organisation methodology for assessing functional limitations. Entering this data into the electronic system makes patient information more structured and accessible to specialists in different healthcare facilities.
Previously, the lack of technical capability to enter the results of such assessments into the EHCS complicated the exchange of data between rehabilitation teams, especially when a patient was transitioning between stages of treatment. Now, the history of functional assessments will be stored in the system, which will facilitate better monitoring of progress and increase the soundness of clinical decision-making.
The Ministry of Health also reports plans to add several more tools to the EHCS, including a scale related to the assessment of spinal cord injury (ASIA) and the ability to record components of the Barthel Index. This expansion of functionality complies with international standards for assessing the functional status of patients and supports the digital transformation of the medical industry.
