The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative silver coin, “The Spirit of Christmas,” with a face value of UAH 10, dedicated to Ukrainian Christmas traditions. The coin is made of 925 silver and weighs 31.1 grams. The decoration features double-sided gilding and a small diamond with a diameter of 1.5 millimetres, mounted in the centre of the star on the obverse. The mintage is limited to 15,000 copies, and sales will begin in January 2026 through the NBU’s online numismatic store and distributor banks.
The coin’s design includes symbols of Ukrainian Christmas traditions. The obverse features a stylised straw didukh with an angel, symbolising protection and good news, and a starry background with the Star of Bethlehem adorned with a diamond. The reverse depicts a scene of a pre-Christmas meal of a Ukrainian family with traditional dishes and symbolic images of parents and children. Artists Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk and Serhii Kharuk, as well as sculptors Anatolii Demianenko and Volodymyr Atamanchuk, worked on the design.
The commemorative coin was presented on 23 December during the traditional pre-New Year meeting between NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy and the regulator’s team. According to the head of the bank, the new issue embodies deep family traditions and is intended to become a symbol of unity, warmth and festive spirit for Ukrainians.
