The International Renaissance Foundation has announced a competition entitled “Engaging civil society in Ukraine’s accession to the European Union,” aimed at increasing the participation of non-governmental organisations in negotiations and preparations for EU membership. The initiative aims to strengthen the expert capacity of civil society organisations, promote advocacy and dialogue between stakeholders, and raise awareness of the necessary policy and legislative changes related to European integration.
The competition is being implemented as part of the “Joining the EU Together” programme with the support of the European Union. The total budget for the project is 35 million hryvnia, and the size of the grants for the winners varies from 500,000 to 1.8 million hryvnia. The deadline for submitting proposals is 3 February 2026, and the results are to be announced by 23 March 2026.
Participating organisations can submit projects that include analysis of the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with EU standards, awareness-raising campaigns, advocacy actions, development of recommendations, and other forms of support for the negotiation process. The competition is expected to increase civil society’s ability to influence the quality of public policy and shape the dialogue on reforms in key sectors.
