In Ukraine, during the week from 15 to 21 December, there was an increase in the incidence of influenza, COVID-19 and other acute respiratory viral infections. During this period, 138,409 people fell ill, of whom more than 83,000 were children. Compared to the previous week, the overall incidence rate increased by 3.1%.
Against the backdrop of an increase in the number of ARVI cases, the incidence of COVID-19 shows the opposite trend. During the reporting week, 372 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed, which is 19.4% less than a week earlier.
A total of 3,971 patients with complications required hospitalisation, including 2,330 children. All hospitalised patients received the necessary treatment in accordance with clinical protocols.
A slight exceedance of the epidemic threshold was recorded in only three regions — Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, and Lviv. In other regions of the country, the incidence of ARVI remains within the seasonal background.
Since the beginning of the epidemic season, which lasts from 29 September to 21 December 2025, more than 1.47 million people have contracted acute respiratory viral infections. This is 4.5% more than during the same period last year. During the same period, 18,666 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Ukraine.
Doctors emphasise the importance of seeking medical attention in a timely manner if symptoms of respiratory diseases appear, including fever, cough, sore throat, headache, or muscle and joint aches. Self-medication can lead to complications, especially in children and people with chronic diseases.
