Since last night, Russia has been carrying out a massive attack on Ukraine, targeting primarily energy and civilian infrastructure. According to preliminary data, more than 650 drones, most of which were Shahed-type drones, and more than three dozen missiles were launched across the country. The attacks affected virtually all life-support infrastructure.

As of this morning, an air raid alert remains in effect across most of Ukraine. All emergency and utility services are involved in dealing with the aftermath of the strikes and restoring critical facilities. At the same time, civilian casualties have been confirmed. A woman was killed in the Kyiv region by a Russian drone strike. Another person was killed in the Khmelnytskyi region. In the Zhytomyr region, a Russian drone hit a residential building, killing a four-year-old child.

At least 13 regions have already been hit. Air defence forces managed to destroy a significant number of drones and missiles. The Air Force will release information on the scale of the strikes and hits after all reports have been summarised. At the same time, damage to energy facilities and civilian infrastructure has been reported in a number of regions.

Repair crews and energy workers are working around the clock to stabilise the power supply and ensure normal life in cities and communities. According to the Ukrainian side, the timing and nature of the strike indicate Russia’s intention to continue putting pressure on the civilian population. Particularly on the eve of the Christmas holidays and against the backdrop of diplomatic contacts to end the war. This includes critical infrastructure.
