  • The introduction of requirements involves the adaptation of agricultural enterprises to new standards.

From 1 January 2026, mandatory requirements for animal welfare during their keeping will come into force in Ukraine. The new rules apply to both private farms and industrial enterprises, in particular those involved in keeping cattle.

These are comprehensive rules that define minimum standards for the treatment of animals, conditions for their keeping, care and provision of basic needs. The regulations cover the physical condition of animals, access to water and feed, housing conditions, indoor microclimate, and the prevention of suffering and injury.

The introduction of mandatory animal welfare requirements is part of the update of national legislation in the field of agricultural policy and veterinary control. Particular emphasis is placed on industrial farms where cattle are kept, given the scale of production and the impact of housing conditions on animal health and product quality.

The new rules are expected to standardise approaches to animal husbandry across the country and set clear requirements for agribusiness. For producers, this means adapting technological processes and housing conditions to approved standards, and for the state, it means strengthening control over compliance with animal welfare legislation.
