The Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna has announced the opening of applications for the Milena Jesenská Fellowship for Journalists, a scholarship programme for professional reporters and journalists from Europe, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. This programme supports journalists with experience in print, television or online media who wish to pursue their own research project in the cultural, intellectual or artistic field.
Selected candidates will spend three months in Vienna between September 2026 and June 2027. During their stay, fellows will receive a monthly stipend of €3,300, a workspace with internet access, and support from the Institute for Human Sciences’ research resources. The main focus of the programme is on creating in-depth material that the journalist plans to develop during the residency.
To participate in the programme, applicants must submit their application in English via an online form by 16 January 2026. All documents must be combined into a single PDF file with Latin characters in the file names. Required materials include a cover letter, a brief description of the project, a detailed proposal, a CV with a list of publications, and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from an editor or fellow journalist.
The decision on the selected participants will be made by an expert jury, and applicants will be informed by email by 30 April 2026. The programme is implemented in cooperation with ERSTE Stiftung and aims to support journalistic initiatives that go beyond everyday practice.
