The incidence of acute respiratory viral infections in Ukraine increased by 6% over the week

In Ukraine, during the week of 8 to 14 December 2025, there was an increase in the incidence of influenza, COVID-19 and other acute respiratory viral infections. According to epidemic monitoring data, 133,094 people fell ill with ARVI, of whom more than 81,000 were children. Compared to the previous week, the incidence rate increased by 6.1 per cent.

Complications from these diseases led to the hospitalisation of 3,542 patients. Most of them were children. All hospitalised patients received the necessary medical care in accordance with clinical protocols.

A separate increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has been recorded. Over the week, 454 infections were laboratory confirmed, which is more than 3 per cent higher than in the previous period.

In most regions of the country, the incidence of ARVI remains within the seasonal background. At the same time, in Ivano-Frankivsk and Zhytomyr regions, a slight exceedance of the epidemic threshold was recorded, which is assessed as low.

Since the beginning of the epidemic season, which has been ongoing since 29 September, more than 1.33 million people in Ukraine have contracted ARVI. This is 3.5 per cent more than during the same period last year. More than 18,000 cases of COVID-19 have also been registered.

Doctors emphasise the importance of preventing respiratory infections, in particular through vaccination, adherence to personal hygiene rules and timely medical care. Treatment should only be prescribed by a doctor, as self-medication can lead to complications.
