Wedding Trends 2024: Ukrainians are divorcing more often, marrying less frequently, and entering into more prenuptial agreements. Over 72,000 marriages were registered in the first half of 2024 according to the Ministry of Justice, which is a 15% decrease compared to last year. On the other hand, the number of prenuptial agreements increased by 25%, and divorces surged by one and a half times compared to the same period last year. These findings come from a study published by OpenDataBot.
In the first half of 2024, Ukrainians formed 72,766 new families, which is 15% fewer than in the same period last year and a third fewer compared to 2022. It’s worth noting that after a wedding boom in the first year of the full-scale invasion, the number of marriages gradually decreased each year. This year, there were even fewer new families created than before the large-scale war.
At the same time, it can be said that new families are being formed more consciously: Ukrainians are increasingly signing prenuptial agreements. Notaries issued 3,768 prenuptial agreement forms since the beginning of the year, which is a 25% increase compared to the same period last year.
The capital remains the leader in the number of marriages, with 9,392 new families. The second place is held by Dnipropetrovsk region with 7,076 marriages, and the third place goes to Odesa region with 4,896 newly created families.

Following a decline in the first year of the full-scale invasion, divorces have been steadily increasing for the past two years. In the first six months of 2024, 15,578 divorces were registered. This is 1.5 times higher than the same period last year and 18% more than the first half of 2021.
In the anti-rating for the number of divorces, Kyiv leads with 2,118 divorces. The top three also includes Dnipropetrovsk region with 1,404 divorces, and Kharkiv region, where 1,148 couples ended their marriages.
