A key event was a regional meeting organized by the WHO Office in Ukraine in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Participants focused on the implementation of the Strategic Directions for Nursing Development, which were approved by the Ministry of Health in November 2024. The document defines four basic areas: development of education, strengthening human capacity and working conditions, leadership in nursing, and expanding the role of nurses in the provision of medical services.

Particular attention was paid to the practical application of the strategy in regions and medical institutions, as well as the role of hospital managers, head nurses, and professional associations. Participants emphasized that a sense of professional dignity and the real involvement of nurses in management processes are key to sustainable change in the healthcare system.

The dialogue continued at the third Open Forum on nursing education. During the event, participants discussed the harmonization of Ukrainian educational programs with EU standards, improving the quality of training for specialists, and developing modern competencies. Significant attention was paid to the integration of mental health skills, responding to cases of gender-based violence, and the role of students in modernizing the educational process.

The Ministry of Health notes that these measures are part of a systemic transformation of nursing in Ukraine, which should strengthen the sector’s human resources and make medical care more people-oriented and accessible.
