211,800 doses of the MMR vaccine have been delivered to Ukraine for free immunisation of children. The delivery was organised by UNICEF as part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Upon arrival of the shipment, the Public Health Centre of Ukraine began distributing the vaccines to all regions to ensure their availability in every region.
The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. These infections are highly contagious and associated with the risk of serious complications. These include pneumonia, meningitis, damage to the nervous system, infertility, and dangerous consequences for the foetus during pregnancy. According to doctors, vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent these diseases.
Parents are advised to contact their family doctor, paediatrician, or the nearest medical facility where vaccination is available. If a child has missed scheduled vaccinations, the doctor can draw up an individual schedule to catch up on immunisation.
The arrival of a new batch of vaccines should ensure the stability of the national vaccination calendar and maintain the level of protection for children during periods of increased risk of infectious diseases.
