As a result of a massive airstrike by Russian forces on the city of Sloviansk in early December 2025, a staff building and two vehicles belonging to the international organization Doctors Without Borders were damaged, along with an ambulance belonging to their partners from Cadus. The explosion occurred just a few meters from the residential building where the organization’s staff were staying, according to Doctors Without Borders representatives at the Humanitarian Media Hub.

“All the windows were blown out by the blast. We saw flames spreading to neighboring houses. Families with their children were standing outside while firefighters tried to contain the blaze,” said Enrique García Quiros, project coordinator for Doctors Without Borders.

Robin Meldrum, head of projects in Ukraine, emphasized: “Our neighbors were families with children, a beekeeper, a cook, and several houses for staff of other NGOs. This bomb hit a civilian area. Whether this attack was targeted or indiscriminate, it is unacceptable, and we condemn it.”

The organization plans to continue providing medical assistance from an alternative base.
