A new educational and innovative testing centre was presented at the O.M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv. It was created as part of the support for frontline and relocated universities under the UIHERP project of the Ministry of Education and Science and the World Bank, ‘Improving Higher Education in Ukraine for Results’.

The university received modern testing and research equipment and conducted certified training for specialists, allowing them to work in accordance with European technical standards. This expands the possibilities for conducting measurements and tests, as well as creating an environment where students acquire skills in working with technologies used in the real sector of urban economy.

The new centre strengthens the university’s research activities, encourages students and scientists to participate in innovative projects, and helps solve applied problems in the fields of construction, urban engineering, transport, energy conservation, and urban reconstruction after destruction. For Kharkiv, this creates an additional expert platform where solutions for modernising critical infrastructure are modelled and tested.

The updated material and technical base increases the university’s competitiveness in the international scientific community. It opens up access to grant programmes, allows participation in international consortia and joint research with partners from the European Union and other countries.

Support for the Beketov National University of Urban Economy is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Education and Science and the World Bank to modernise Ukrainian universities. Within the UIHERP component, funding has already been approved for the purchase of equipment, IT infrastructure and tools for continuous learning and research, enabling academic communities to work in the difficult conditions of war.
