The government is introducing border controls to speed up travel to Poland

The Ukrainian government has adopted a decision that changes the border crossing procedure for passengers on international trains. From now on, border and customs control will be carried out directly in the carriages while the train is moving, which reduces the time spent at the border and makes travel more comfortable.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the new format is already in effect on select Intercity+ trains bound for Poland, where customs and State Border Service employees check documents and luggage as the train approaches the border. The government plans to extend this practice to sleeping cars on night routes to ensure the same standard of service for all international passengers.

The first trains to implement the on-the-move control regime will be the Kyiv-Przemyśl and Kyiv-Chełm routes. More than 130,000 Ukrainians travel on these routes every month, so the decision should have a significant impact on the convenience and duration of border crossings. The accelerated procedure is expected to be launched in January, after which it will be gradually scaled up to other flights.
