This year, Ukraine will celebrate Children’s Day for the first time on 20 November, the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. On this occasion, the President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Rehabilitation, Daria Gerasymchuk, together with the Ministry of Education and Science and UNICEF, are initiating a nationwide lesson dedicated to children’s rights.
The lesson was created by the public organisation Osvitoria in collaboration with UNICEF. Its programme is based on materials from the handbook Children’s Rights in Peacetime and Wartime and will help schoolchildren better understand their rights and the role of the state in protecting them.
Schools can register to participate until 12 November. By 16 November, teaching materials and methodological recommendations will be published on the UNICEF website. On 17–18 November, there will be an online training session for teachers and anyone else who has registered to participate. The lesson itself is scheduled to take place on 19–20 November in schools across Ukraine.
The first 500 educational institutions to apply will receive printed materials on children’s rights from UNICEF for use in class.
