The Medical Centre Orthotics & Prosthetics (MCOP) representative office has begun operations in Kyiv. The opening was part of a new international programme to support Ukrainian military personnel who lost limbs during the war.
During the launch of the centre, Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity Denys Ulyutin and his deputy Inna Solodka announced the start of a three-year programme to provide prosthetics to Ukrainian defenders. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the Icelandic government and the Icelandic company Embla Medical. Its total budget is $11.6 million.
The programme will enable more than a thousand Ukrainians to receive lower limb prostheses free of charge. MCOP specialises in high-quality functional prosthetics for complex cases, as well as comprehensive rehabilitation, including adaptation, gait training and individual prosthesis selection.

‘We are grateful to our partners for their contribution to the rehabilitation of our military personnel. The opening of such centres is an important step towards the high-quality rehabilitation and adaptation of people with disabilities to new conditions,’ said Denis Ulyutin.
In addition to providing direct assistance to patients, MCOP is working to develop the Ukrainian prosthetics industry. American specialists from the centre have already trained more than 100 Ukrainian specialists in prosthetics and physical rehabilitation.
Today, 19 specialists work at the Kyiv centre, including three veterans who themselves have gone through the process of losing a limb and making a full recovery. Once the centre is fully equipped, the team will be able to manufacture up to 65 prostheses per month, providing support to Ukrainian military personnel and civilians who have suffered as a result of the war.
