Ukraine has launched the first medical project in Eastern Europe that uses artificial intelligence to treat soldiers with severe injuries. The initiative was presented in Kyiv during the WINWIN Summit 2025: The Power of Innovations, which brought together representatives of the state, science, business and international organisations to develop Ukraine’s innovative potential.

During the summit, a memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Feofaniya Clinical Hospital and the British company GutSee Health Limited. The cooperation involves testing AI-controlled phage therapy technology, a method that uses artificial intelligence to select bacteriophages to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

This technology could be a breakthrough in treating Ukrainian soldiers and veterans with severe injuries. AI will reduce recovery time, increase treatment effectiveness, and reduce its cost.

‘We are working consistently to implement innovative approaches in the Ukrainian healthcare system. Such partnerships are an opportunity to expand access to advanced solutions that will help improve the effectiveness of treatment and allow us to better meet the needs of patients,’ said Maria Karchevich, Deputy Minister of Health for Digitalisation.

The next step will be the launch of MedTech Sandbox, a space for the safe testing of new medical technologies in clinics. Innovative solutions will be tested in hospitals in compliance with safety standards, ethical oversight, and personal data protection.
