Military personnel to be offered short-term contracts with expanded benefits

Ukrainian service members will soon have the opportunity to sign new contracts with the Armed Forces. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the new system will introduce contracts lasting one, two, three, four, or five years. This approach aims to encourage experienced soldiers to continue serving under contract and share their expertise with new generations of military personnel.

Consultations are currently underway regarding the financing of the updated system. Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that soldiers who sign contracts lasting from two to five years will receive a one-year deferment from mobilization upon completion of their service.

The new contracts will also include higher monthly payments, one-time signing bonuses, and an expanded social benefits package. The initiative reflects the government’s effort to create more flexible and motivating service conditions for military personnel across different categories.

Currently, contracts in the Armed Forces range from three to ten years, depending on rank and specialization. One-year agreements are available only to volunteers aged 18 to 25. The introduction of the new system is expected to make military service more adaptable to the modern needs of the army and society.
