Government launches new support programs for the unemployed and veterans

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved two new experimental projects aimed at supporting people who have lost their jobs, as well as veterans. The initiatives will be implemented by the State Employment Service.

The first project targets those who have become unemployed but have not yet obtained official unemployment status. Its goal is to provide quick access to state employment, professional training, and retraining programs. This approach will help individuals return to the labor market before formally registering with the employment service.

According to the plan, if a person does not find a new job within 60 days after dismissal, the Pension Fund of Ukraine will transfer their data to the State Employment Service. Specialists from the service will then contact them via electronic communication channels and inform them about available support options. Further monitoring of training outcomes and assistance in securing employment are also envisaged.

The second project focuses on supporting veterans. Its objective is to strengthen the social and professional adaptation of former service members and create more accessible conditions for their reintegration into civilian life. To achieve this, a new coordination mechanism will be introduced between career advisors from the Employment Service and veteran support specialists.

The project also includes simplifying registration procedures, allowing applications to be submitted through authorized specialists, and expanding financial incentives for employers who hire veterans. Such employers will be reimbursed 100% of their actual wage costs, up to 1.5 times the minimum salary. In addition, veterans will have the opportunity to participate in community service programs without needing to obtain unemployment status, receiving payment equivalent to two minimum wages.

Both experimental projects aim to strengthen proactive employment policies, facilitate people’s return to the workforce, and expand social integration opportunities for veterans.
