Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a new winter support package for citizens, which will come into effect in December. The programme provides for several areas of assistance, ranging from direct payments to free rail travel up to 3,000 km.
The head of state announced this on his Telegram channel. According to him, the first part of the initiative will involve direct financial support, which Ukrainians will be able to use for their most necessary expenses. In addition, a separate assistance programme will be created for single elderly people, large families and residents of frontline territories.
Zelensky also stressed that fixed prices for gas and electricity for domestic consumers will be maintained in winter. In addition, the government is working on a special transport programme. Ukrzaliznytsia has proposed introducing free travel for distances of up to 3,000 kilometres within Ukraine. The details of this initiative are currently being worked out.
Another area of focus will be the expansion of medical services. In January, the Ministry of Health plans to launch a project of preventive examinations — so-called check-ups — for broad groups of the population.
The President has instructed the government to finalise all elements of the winter support package in the coming weeks and to present its details by 15 November.
