Veterans with disabilities can learn to drive for free — the Ministry of Veterans Affairs pays for training

In Ukraine, veterans with disabilities can now receive free training in driving adapted vehicles. The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, which covers the full cost of the courses.

According to the ministry, 59 veterans have already completed the training. The program aims to increase the mobility, independence, and quality of life of people who have returned from the war with disabilities.

Veterans, members of their families, and families of deceased defenders of Ukraine who have medical indications for driving are eligible to participate.

Training takes place in 16 specialized driving schools in 14 regions, including those based at Ministry of Internal Affairs facilities. These schools have vehicles equipped for people with various disabilities, allowing everyone to learn to drive in comfortable and safe conditions.

To apply, you need to contact your local veterans’ affairs office where you live or stay. You can submit your documents in paper or electronic format. After that, the office signs a three-way agreement between the veteran, the driving school, and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

“For many of our defenders, the opportunity to get behind the wheel on their own is not only a convenience, but also a symbol of a return to active life,” the Ministry of Veterans Affairs notes.

All information about training conditions and driving school addresses is available on the Barrier-Free Driving Schools project website.

The program is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The goal of the initiative is to create an accessible environment for the rehabilitation of veterans and give them the opportunity to feel confident and independent behind the wheel.
