Veterans Recorded Audio Novellas About War, Memory, and Love

Combat veterans and medics undergoing rehabilitation at the Unbroken and Superhumans centers have recorded a collection of audio novellas about their fellow defenders. The project, titled Voices of Defenders, brings together works by contemporary Ukrainian authors that tell stories of strength, loss, resilience, and love during the war, according to the Lviv City Council.

The stories can be accessed on the official website in both text and audio formats. The collection was presented at the Ukrainian national stand during the Frankfurt Book Fair, one of the most influential literary events in the world.

A public presentation of the book took place in early October at the 32nd Lviv International BookForum. The foreword was written by writer and serviceman Valeriy Puzik, who described the stories as “a pulsating experience of memory, pain, and love.” According to him, these novellas depict the war not only as a series of military events but as a deeply human experience that intertwines suffering, tenderness, and inner strength.

The Voices of Defenders project illustrates how art helps veterans comprehend their experiences and share them with society, preserving the living memory of the war and its heroes.
